Water-Gen is a company that has created new technology to create drinking water through air and electricity. The process is simple: collect air, separate it by its humidity, and use the resulting water vapor to cool down the air again.

This process — condensation — is also used in traditional power plants for cooling purposes, but Water-Gen’s new technology extracts only the purest, cleanest water from these vapors.

Water-Gen’s technology uses the natural power of the air to condense into water vapor. Depending on the temperature, humidity, and pressure of the air, water is extracted from the air. The resulting water vapor is then cooled to 45 °C (seconds) before it reaches humans. This process adds no energy to the overall energy consumption of cooling thousands of tonnes of air per year at any global scale.

The company’s initial factory producing the vapor is located in the city of Dannenberg, Germany.

The plant is designed to produce up to 250 tons of air per day, which will feed through water-to-air condensers with a cooling capacity of 250 tons.
This air goes through two condensers, which are cooled by water vapor. The water vapor is then sent through a cooling cycle before being distilled into pure drinking water.

Water-Gen was awarded the Climate Champions Award in 2008 by the climate research institute of Germany.
This organization recognizes companies that are contributing to renewable energy and energy efficiency efforts.
